1.  Material published aims at promoting English and Australian creative writing within Australia and around the World. It also aims at providing cultural and literary access between the English and the Arabic-speaking populations worldwide.  
 
2.  Literary and cultural material, including essays, articles, studies, reviews, short stories, poetry, prose, art and photography will be accepted for publication. Any length will be considered, but normally a story should not exceed 3000 words and a study 6000.  
 
3.  Authors and translators are requested to submit their material to the editor for consideration, accompanied with a letter of consent to publish and translate. It is the responsibility of translators to obtain permission to translate and publish.  
 
4.  The preferred method of submission is E-mail. Alternatively, material can be sent saved on a disk. Material accepted for publication will appear in the next available issue.It is advisable to send material at least 90 days ahead of the first day of the month of publication of a particular issue.  
 
5.  The decision of the editor concerning publication is final, and Kalimat does not enter into any discussion regarding refusal of publication.  
 
6.  Material to be published should be original and not previously published (including internet publishing). The material we publish will have a chance to be translated into Arabic and published in other media in the Arab world, or other projects undertaken by Kalimat (with the author's consent). Material selected for translation must have originally been published in the original language. A full reference of publication must be provided, otherwise material will not be considered.  
 
7.  Copyright of the original submitted material and translations remains the property of the author. Copyright of translations undertaken by Kalimat belongs to Kalimat.  
 
8.  Priority will be given to creative material with high originality and literary merit. To maintain quality, material is sent to at least two assessors before a final decision about its publication is made.  
 
9.  Material reflecting personal cultural experiences, cultural interactions and folklore is desirable, particularly when it is presented as a concise snapshot of a particular individual, society or event.  
 
10.  Young and emerging talents are strongly supported and encouraged. They will still be subject to the same quality review as everyone else.  
 
11.  Material accepted for publication does not necessarily represent the views of the Editor, the Publisher, advisers or sponsors.  
 
12.  Writers whose material is accepted for publication receive a free copy of the issue in which their material is published. They also have the opportunity of their work being translated into Arabic. No other compensation is given.
